Can you apply traditional henna and ‘white henna’ together? Of course!
Traditional henna makes the best stains on palms and soles, and lesser stains on the rest of the body. Becoming Moonlight gilding paste is not suitable for palms or soles, but is well suited to all other non-hairy, not-flexing parts of the body. Becoming Moonlight gilding paste and traditional henna compliment each other.
This hand has henna, Becoming Moonlight® Gilding Paste dots with diamond gilding powder, and stripes of Mehron Metallics gold and silver.
Mehron Metallics is water resistant, but will not last more than two days. Becoming Moonlight® Gilding Paste will last three to ten days, depending on the placement on the body and how well the wearer takes care of it.
If you apply both of these at the same time as the henna, Becoming Moonlight® Gilding Paste ‘white henna’ will remain in place after the henna has stained the skin. Mehron Metallics will wear and wash away, just as other gilding pastes will.
There are two problems with applying ‘white henna’ at the same time as henna.
- Most people have to scrape henna off the skin, and that will disturb the ‘white henna’. This can be solved by rinsing the henna off the skin, or applying the henna and white henna in separate places on the skin.
- If henna is on contact with white henna, the lawsone in the henna will stain the ‘white henna’. This can be solved by keeping the two separate.
If you can work around these two issues, you can certainly apply ‘white henna’ at the same time as henna on a bride, and the gilding will remain two days later.

The most simple and effective solution is to apply henna to areas where it does best: fingertips and palms. Then apply Becoming Moonlight gilding paste to areas where henna does not stain as well. The henna pattern on the palm can be continued with Becoming Moonlight all the way to the shoulders. Becoming Moonlight can be used other places on the body where henna often does not produce a rich color.
If you keep henna and Becoming Moonlight gilding paste separated, and each in their most suitable place, an artist can do the full bridal henna and gilding application on one day. The bride’s henna and gilding will be in place and perfect two days later.
Becoming Moonlight gilding paste may be applied after henna, on top of henna, to make a simple pattern more elaborate! ‘White Henna’ can be used to make it match clothing for a special occasion.
